My siblings and I joined karate 3 years ago, I joined because of the discipline and self defence aspect, also because it's fun. I also wanted something to help me get some more physical activity into my life.
Everyone is great and I have made lots of friends. The activities outside the dojo are lots of fun, like the tournaments. We have made some great friends from different clubs that we compete against but we are like extended family.
Also Sensei is a great instructor, we have lots of fun in the dojo but he is also strict and teaches us lots.
I joined because I wanted to learn self defence and to get fit.
I like the style of karate that we do, it’s fun and I have also made a lot of new friends, everyone is so nice. We have had so much fun in the dojo, even when we are training and the tournaments are great because we get to see all the friends from other club that we compete against but don’t see all the time.
I joined because karate is good exercise and in karate you learn how to look after yourself. It’s also a lot of fun.
I like learning the kata’s, they are lots of fun and after we have done training Sensei lets us play games. We have to do lots of running but the games are fun to play and good exercise.
After leaving a different style of karate over 20 years ago I decided I wanted to get back into it. Since my children had been trained by Sensei Naylor for over 2½ years I thought I would try Shotokan.
I wanted to get my physical fitness back and enjoy the karate I had always loved when I was younger.
We are involved in the Lawnton and Bracken Ridge clubs and both are great, with a wonderful bunch of people.
The seniors class has a range from white belts to black belts so even the most in-experienced people will have plenty of help and support, as I did when I started.
Our members range from 3 to well, a lot older and it’s like a huge family - without all the arguments. We all get along, look out for each other and help each other if we can. It really is a great organisation to be part of.
